Pause für Real Life

I need to get away from bloglife for a few days. I start to scan real life for things I could blog about, and I get really lost while surfing - not good for productivity.

I haven't touched a paintbrush for almost a year now, but finally the creative flow has brought me back to painting. The weather is perfect right now, and the flowers outside are so tempting.

The cat keeps mice in our house, so he always has something to play with.

A project a day

When I saw Edward B. Gordon's blog about a Painting a Day I thought about doing something similar. I could promise myself to create something every day. Self-motivation for the moments when I am just too tired or in a hesitating mood. Last night I almost gave in, but then I thought about my to-do-list and made a cover for my sunglasses:

Haarspangen

On of the first things I came across reading craft blogs were barrettes. I liked these and these and because we really needed barrettes I tried it out myself:

I played around with different ways to fix the felt and fabric to the clip. This one works best for me: Just two slits in the back where I push in the clip.

Jetzt reicht es erstmal mit Haarspangen. P will inzwischen ohnehin lieber Haarbänder - ein neues Spielfeld für mich!

Kurz vor der Explosion...

...stehen die Knospen hier überall.

We spent the day outside. I promised myself not to put any photos of flowers up on this blog, but it was just too nice to see everything ready to open.

And the tulip gave me an idea, why maybe my daughter didn't accept the second version of her hat either - perhaps it was a little too georgia o'keeffish?

Bügelperlen II

Fortunately this time my work of last night was accepted by little girl. Of course she is happy that I used one of her ornaments. (I still don't know how these perls are called in English).

Zakka

Until reading all the craft blogs I had never heard of zakka before. I know I like it a lot, but I am still trying to understand. I guess this article in the Int. Herald Tribune sums it up: "It's the japanese term for everything and anything that spruces up your home, life and outlook. ... Cute is not enough. To qualify as a zakka, a product must be attractive, sensitive, laden with subtexts." I have been looking at tons of japanese craft books online, very fascinated. Today I showed my japanese friend Haruyo what I found. She said, to her all these pictures do not look japanese at all, to her it is french, european or western culture. My eyes however see the japanese influence, so I guess it is the fusion that I like about zakka and the japanese crafts.
Haruyo gave me some more kimono fabric, thanks a lot! If I have the courage to use them I will try to make some German Zakka.

Bügelperlen

The "Bügelperlen" might just be a German phenomenon. Last night we finally found a way to use the final product:

Was soll man denn bloß sonst mit den Dingern machen?

Jetzt geht es wirklich los

The last weeks I spent reading through craft blogs all over the world and was totally fascinated. There were women like me everywere, drawing, painting, sewing, printing, creating things. Their homes look like my home, they like me have kids, cats, collections of vintage things, they love retro and scandinavian style. They are funny and wise an very generous in sharing. What they create totally inspires me and makes me want to try it out myself.
I know the world is not waiting for another craft blog, but I am waiting for this one, to push myself to finish things. I want to show and share what I found and what I have done.
Now some tea (proof of lifestyle)...
